Thanksgiving is Almost Here
Order your Diestel Range-Grown, Organic or Heritage Breed Turkey from our Butcher Today!
Diestel supplies Urban Radish with nearly all our turkey products year-round, including our annual Thanksgiving turkeys. This year we will be carrying Diestel’s range grown turkeys, certified organic Heidi’s Hens and we'll have a limited number of Diestel’s American Heirloom organic bronze turkeys available as well.
Diestel is one of the few turkey ranches which raises Heritage Organic Turkeys, the same turkey that our forefathers knew and cherished, prized for their rich flavor. Does heritage turkey taste better than conventional? Enjoy this blind taste-test conducted by Bon Appetit.
Diestel's turkeys are 'range-grown' which is very different than 'free-range', a term used with minimal regulation in the poultry industry, which only requires that the birds have access to the outdoors -- it does not require that the birds actually spend any time outdoors during their lifetime. Living conditions in which a barn door is cracked open a foot is sufficient to constitute 'free-range'.
At Diestel, turkeys are actually raised in the open range. And this is why we applaud Diestel for being one of the most humane and natural operations in existence in the poultry industry. Adult turkeys (beyond six weeks of age) actually live outdoors using the natural environment of trees and shrubs in the Sierra Foothills as their shelter areas. They are exposed to the sun, wind, rain and even potential predators.
